Dear Mouthy Housewives,
My husband is not as diligent as I am about applying sunscreen to our kids. He doesn't think it's a big deal. How do I impress upon him how important it is?
WTH with the lack of SPF?
Dear WTH with the lack of SPF?
Oh girl, I so hear you! Just this past weekend, my husband spent six hours at the beach with our girls and never once thought about reapplying sunscreen on them. Not once. Although according to my rough calculations, he thought about the Phillies losing baseball season 16 times, his iPad 14 times and Modern Family's Sophia Vergara twice.
Well, our daughters got sunburned and I was irate. Like madder than I was when Lipstick Jungle got canceled. He did feel really bad and promised to do better in the future.
But I'm taking no chances. And I suggest you do the same. Because according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, just a few serious sunburns can increase your child's risk of skin cancer later in life.
Insist your children wear rash guard shirts and use a sunscreen with a zinc oxide which protects against all rays. I love Blue Lizard but I'm sure your dermatologist can also recommend one. And when you know your kids will be with your husband in the sun for long periods of time, send him a reminder text or have him set an alarm on his phone so he knows when to reapply. Because it is easy to forget.
I'm sure there are things that are really important to him when it comes to raising your children. Let him know that protecting your kids from the dangers of the sun is one of your important things. He needs to respect that.
Good luck and now let's work together to get Lipstick Jungle back on the air! Okay, that's totally not happening.
