The Magnificent Quarry Splash Pad

Pipper's Pick for the week of June 22, 2012 would have to be the Quarry Splash Pad located at: 3005 C.R. 175 just north of FM 1431 Leander, TX.  This splash pad is unlike anything we had in San Diego. I am continually amazed by the wealth of parks and kid friendly zones Austin and the surrounding area have to offer.

The splash pad is found nestled amongst acres of soccer fields and the Cedar Park train ride. This is a very large space with a covered sand box for digging, a rock climbing wall located in a tunnel bridging the sand and water play. The pad hosts a variety of waterworks including a waterfall and three cannons. There is a small water slide and pebble path with mini sprinklers for tots. Greeting your arrival is a concession stand, where you pay your admission fee of id="mce_marker".00 (and worth every penny.) Several picnic tables are available to bring snacks or a bag lunch. Most importantly, there are decent bathrooms! My oldest son spent most of his time at the water cannons exchanging fire with other elementary-aged children. The little one stayed close by my side, preferring the sand pit for digging and burying exploration. The other bonus of living in Texas is the population. Unless there is a day camp in session, the large play area offers plenty of room for fun and frolic. There were no accidents, or even near collisions to raise anxiety levels. I am definitely adding this location to my weekly, summer activity rotation.
