Creating a life of purpose and focused living is hard work.
Wouldn’t it be easier to wake up and say ‘To hell with it all?” I’m tired, I’m bored, and I’m finished with doing the things I have to do. I’m going to call in sick, skip my walk, make French toast with lots of butter and maple syrup, and sit on the couch and watch old movies.
It would be easier, no doubt.
We all deserve the days to do that – to just not feel responsible for anyone or anything – even ourselves to a certain degree.
But in our hearts, we know that is not how we want to live life every day forever. Just one day every so often.
A life of purpose means you do the things you have to do in order to survive AND you do the things that have meaning to you that will influence others – whether it is a huge audience, or just the people who surround you on a daily basis.

In this new phase of life, you don’t need to lose who you’ve become. You know your likes and dislikes. You embrace what you’ve accomplished as a mom, wife, friend, and daughter; the things you have done in your professional life and in your community.
But if you are feeling like you want or need to do more, but can’t, here’s your kick in the butt!
1. Place Value On It.
Whatever it is – starting a new job or business; finding time to paint, knit, create; volunteering at a food bank or homeless shelter – what is it worth? Why do you want to do it? Write it down. When you realize the WHY and what the reward will be – the doing becomes easier.
2. No But Ifs.
There is enough time, when you make enough time. (How much time do you spend on FB, watching TV, reading – yes, you will have to trade off something!)
There is enough money when you trade off something for another. (How many $10 items do you throw into your cart at the big box stores without thinking about it. Do you really need it? Can that $10, 20, 40 go toward your new purpose?)
There is enough of your talent to make it work. (And if you need a refresher course in something – you can either find it free online, or see the two points above!)
There are no excuses.
3. Start – Today.
Do one little thing, make one small change and STICK WITH IT. Do it every day for a week (including weekends!). And then two weeks. And then the third. They say it takes 21 days for a habit to become part of your life. Nurture it and let it develop and become part of your life.
And don’t give up! Never, ever give up on what you want. You may have to change your path, find assistance, but never, lose your focus.
You didn’t give up on your kids, and that took 18 years or more. You recognized their value, you didn't let time, money or circumstance stand in your way of teaching them to grow, and you did what you had to do every single day. You've accomplished so much! Why give up on yourself now?
Set the example. Reap the rewards of giving, growing, feeling fit, or being healthy.
