Before I was a mom...
I thought I knew who I was. I was wrong.

Before I was a mom...
My house was clean.

Before I was a mom...
I showered on my own schedule and I never had an audience while going to the bathroom.

Before I was a mom...
I was never going to let my kids watch too much TV, eat too much McDonalds or play
too many video games.

Before I was a mom...
I wouldn't have even considered catching barf in my hands to try and salvage my couch.

Before I was a mom...
I took for granted what it felt like to shop alone.

Before I was a mom...
I actually sat down to eat breakfast.

Before I was a mom...
I had a career as a teacher. There a lot of days now when I miss it. And a lot of days when I don't.

Before I was a mom...
I slept soundly. Once in a while I even took a nap.

Before I was a mom...
You would never have found crayons, wipes, applesauce packets, crusty kleenexes, and squashed granola bars in my purse.

Before I was a mom...
I could talk on the phone for more than 5 minutes without being interrupted.

Before I was a mom...
I didn't sneak into the kitchen to eat chocolate chips when everyone else was sleeping.
Before I was a mom...
My feet weren't bruised from stepping on Legos.

Before I was a mom...
I didn't need to drink coffee before I could function in the morning.

Before I was a mom...
I had unlimited time to focus on my marriage. I miss that.

Before I was a mom...
We used to just jump in the car for a road trip and decide what we were going to do whenever we got where we were going.

Before I was a mom...
I didn't yell as much as I do now.

Before I was a mom...
I had no idea a person could lose so much sleep worrying.

Before I was a mom...
I couldn't comprehend the level of pride and elation you could experience from watching your son make his first basket in a game, or your daughter step into her first dance class.

Before I was a mom...
I thought I understood the concept of unconditional love. I had no clue that was just the tip of the iceberg.

I remember one day when I was pregnant with our oldest.
I was having a moment of irrational panic.
I was convinced that my life was going to be over once the baby was here.
My dad just laughed and reassured me that I was about to experience the best part of my life.
That when I'm old I will always look back on the days when my kids were little and miss them.
Before I was a mom...I didn't believe that. Silly me.
