For many of us, Thanksgiving can begin a downward spiral of unhealthy eating and weight gain.
The best way to avoid this, is to start the holiday season with healthy eating habits.
Here are some healthy eating tips for the holiday season...
Avoid overeating by not going to holiday dinners or parties hungry.
Drink plenty of water (with lemon) before and during holiday parties.
Say no to soda and high caloric beverages.
Reduce your chances of overeating by not socializing near the buffet or kitchen.
Watch how much you put on your plate, small portions are best.
Eat slowly. When you eat slowly you allow yourself time to begin to feel full.
Avoid high fat and sugar items.
Make healthy food choices.
If you are the cook...
Prepare as many healthy dishes as possible.
Serve fresh fruits and low fat desserts.
Use low fat ingredients when possible.
Select whole grain products for crackers, breads and pastas (avoid white flour when possible).
Serve a healthy soup before the main entree.
Use smaller plates to encourage smaller portions.
I hope these tips will help you avoid the extra pounds that can so easily accumulate around the holidays.
