Grandma needs a vacation from her vacation

Having spent four glorious days with a pre-schooler and a kindergartener, here are my observations:

1) a pencil with three colors in it and a sketch book will amuse a 2 and 3/4 year old well enough for the child to make pictures of all family members for forty five minutes while being entirely silent,  thereby notdisturbing the adult museum art lecture and giving grandma some needed visual intellectual stimulation. (Don't get me wrong: grandkids are more than adequate visual stimulation, but a great work of art is a diferent kind of stimulation).

2)  I thought I was in good shape. Yes, I don't have excess weight, but I do have some age, which I rarely acknowledge. Spending four days with a 2 and 3/4 year old and a 5 year od (even with the five year old at school all day) rendered me less than a zombie but basically a vegetable by 9 p.m. Even though I can sweat with the best of them in a gym for an hour non stop. This is like the Long Walk in China! Sheesh.

3) Being in a gym designed for tikes are like  being in a country where they subsidize the Olympic-headed athletes. Uneven bars, trampolines, balance beams, you name it, the kids do it with far more grace and ease than I ever had. Start them early!

4) If we can only learn to enjoy tiny things such as a fake thumb that lights up bright red we (adults) would be oh-so-much happier!

Cheers.

Aren't kids great?
