Fire! Fire!

6 years ago

Having kids means being part of some really great and unexpected conversations. Like this one that came about as I was rushing to get the kids ready and out the door one morning [so pretty much status quo for us EVERY SINGLE DAY! *sigh*].

Me: "Ok guys. Let's hurry up. We need to go".

{silence... crickets... then sounds of toys clanking around}

Me: "J! EJ! Come eat your breakfast. We really have to go faster. I need to get to work!!!"

{more silence... more toys...}

Me: "J, if I don't get to work on time I'm going to get fired".

{J suddenly stops and stares at me}

J: "Ok mommy. Ok".

{He sits to eat his breakfast, then pauses and looks at me with a question mark plastered on his face...}

J: "Mommy, stop it!"

Me: "Stop what?"

J: "You're making a joke, right?"

Me: "About what?"

J: "If you go to work late, they aren't actually going to put you on fire!"

I keep forgetting how literally he takes things. Luckily he knew it wouldn't make sense for them to really put me on fire. The joys of an innocent mind ;)
