You were the first man to tell us we were beautiful. You set the tone for how it should be. You were gentle and wise. You were giving, confident and strong.
Once a year when you took time off, we took a road trip up north and stopped at every tourist trap. We stayed in ghost houses as you called them.
You could fix anything whether it was a broken toy or a broken heart. All you needed to say was, “it will be all right” and we were able to move forward. You have seen it all including serving your country and battling a multitude of health challenges. You were unflappable and always came through. We felt safe because you were available.
You were a hard working protector and problem solver. You taught us to swim and ride a bicycle. Your zany sense of humor added levity when things were tough.
You were a perfect Dad, a daughter’s hero. Thank you for giving us a great life, and setting proper expectations.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dear Dads.
