Blood Oranges and Sunsets

Last week I was so stoked to find blood oranges at the market. I love blood oranges. Actually, I love most any food that's visually stunning. Looks are a lot for me when it comes to food.

And as it turns out, names are a great influence to our girls.

You see, these gorgeous orange wedges were cast aside because Papa stood there peeling them saying, "Blooooooood Oranges, who wants to eat a juicy, red blooooooood orange?" And both girls, with grimaces, fled the kitchen and wanted nothing to do with it.

My first thought. Vitamin C opportunity lost. Until, looking at these beauties, I called the girls back in. "These aren't called 'Blood Oranges.' They're 'Sunset Oranges' sillies. Hold it up to the window and take a look."

And we all did. Aren't they deliciously gorgeous? Seriously. Regular orange wedges are stunning, with all those little juice-filled pockets. But Blood Oranges (aka Sunset Oranges) win first prize.

P.S. Does anyone else feel like they are a spin doctor to their children? I cannot believe how many things I spin and then re-spin each day to help things move along.
