Mommy Bloggers Are Making My Biological Clock Tick

Most of the blogs I follow are by women and these women all have children. Whether self proclaimed or not, they are a part of the "Mommy Blog" generation, which I love. I love reading about other women's experiences as they navigate life as a 21st century woman -- maintaining some kind of identity or femininity while still striving to be a good parent. It's nice to know that you're not alone as you chisel crayon off the kitchen wall for the umpteenth time, snapping your nails in the process.

There's just one problem. I don't have a child.

It's not that I've chosen not to; I've only just got married and my husband and I don't feel we're ready (financially or emotionally) for children. It'll happen in the future, sure, but at 28 I think my biological clock has finally started to grumble -- in large part because of the blogs I read.

Sounds slightly daft, since I know I should never make decisions in my own life based on other people's lives, and I won't. However, I can't help but feel envious that parenting and blogging go hand in hand so well; I've honestly not read a blog by a parent that isn't entertaining/touching/interesting. Then here's me, heading towards 30 and still scratching my head wondering if I'll ever find a niche that goes beyond "I'm angry at everything and my health sucks."

There's such a big part of me that wonders if I'll become a better blogger when I become a Mum -- and there's something slightly disturbing about that, since I can imagine that sitting at my computer writing will probably not be on my priority list after giving birth. I can see my husband's aghast face now as I wave a positive pregnancy test under his nose: "Darling, you're going to be a father and I'm going to be able to blog better!" In reality, I think I'll be one of these Mums that will seldom find the time for anything that doesn't involve feeding, burping and fawning over the little life I helped create, which makes me even more in awe of parents that blog regularly.

For now, I think, I'm contended to live vicariously through all the Mommy Bloggers out there, but the moment we decide to start trying I'll be whipping out my laptop at every opportunity waiting for inspiration to strike. When I'm not craving something sugary or reading Pregnancy for Dummies, that is.
