Summer time is grill time in our family. And the classic cheeseburger makes its appearance on our weekly menu plan at least once every couple weeks, if not more. One of the great things about burgers is you can have a lot of variety without much effort.
I've seen a lot of elaborate, and very tasty looking burger recipes on Pinterest, Food Network, and other online locations. But in the summer, I like to take it easy and be able to spend more time on my back porch than in my kitchen. So while I'm sure those recipes taste phenomenal, I prefer a more simple (and quick) burger recipe that can be tweaked a little here or there to create a variety of different burger styles.
Below is my basic burger recipe, along with variations, to give you the best burger recipes!
Basic Burger Recipe
2 pounds ground chuck (the key is to use a little fattier meat so the burger stays moist)
1/4 cup diced onion
1 1/2 Tablespoons Seasoning Salt (we like Lawry's)
2 Tablespoon Worcester sauce
Mix everything together with a fork. Form meat into 8 patties. Another key is to stick your formed patties into the freezer for 20 or 30 minutes before grilling. It helps to hold the burgers together when you first put them on the grill.
Secret Lair Burger
Use the basic burger recipe. When forming your patties, form 16 thinner patties. Top half of the patties with 1 Tablespoon shredded cheddar cheese and a pickle slice. Top with the other burger patties and press the edges together to seal the cheese and pickle inside.
Use the basic burger recipe, but substitute 1/4 cup BBQ sauce for the Worcester sauce. Garnish with Colby Jack cheese, bacon, and friend onions.
Use the basic burger recipe, but substitute 3-4 Tablespoons taco sauce for the Worcester sauce. Garnish with Pepper Jack cheese and pico de gallo.
Use the basic burger recipe and add one diced jalapeno. Garnish with cheddar cheese, bacon, and ranch dressing.
Use the basic burger recipe, but substitute 2 Tablespoons Teriyaki sauce for the Worcester sauce. Garnish with provolone cheese and grilled pineapple rings.
Black & Bleu Burger
Use the basic burger recipe, but substitute 2 Tablespoons steak sauce for the Worcester sauce. Add a couple tablespoons of crumbled bleu cheese to the mix. Garnish with bleu cheese crumbles and roasted red peppers.
Mushroom Swiss Burger
Use the basic burger recipe and garnish with sauteed mushrooms and Swiss cheese.
Use the basic burger recipe and garnish with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing.
Use the basic burger recipe and garnish with Provolone cheese and sauteed onions and green peppers.
