This beautifully written and brave entry by nikkilmiller (EndearingChaos) moved me to tears, as did many of the entries. But I chose this post as the winner because I think it is so important that we openly share the “dark side” of becoming a mother, the aspects that society would rather keep hidden.
Studies indicate that over one million women each year suffer from some form of postpartum depression (PPD). Yet, for a condition affecting up to 20% of new mothers there is very little discussion about PPD in prenatal appointments and almost no follow-up with new mothers to diagnose the condition. So I loved how this writer did not shy away from the harsh reality of PPD’s symptoms but was able to find her way out of that abyss while recognizing there was no miracle pill.
Thank you so much for sharing your story.
