Would You Make 300 Sandwiches To Get Engaged?

New York Post Page Six reporter, Stephanie Smith, revealed that she is the woman behind the popular food blog, 300 Sandwiches. The revelation set off heated debates across social media, with strong opinions from all sides. From the NY Post:

Since last June, a young woman has attracted attention from culinary world icons such as Emeril Lagasse, Michael White and Ken Friedman with 300sandwiches.com, a beautifully photographed blog that documents her quest to woo her boyfriend with bread-and-meat creations. We now reveal that the woman behind the blog is our very own Page Six senior reporter, STEPHANIE SMITH. Here, she tells her story — and shares some recipes.

Well, as one might expect, there was quite a bit of outrage over the idea that a woman would be so "desperate" to be married, that she would cook her boyfriend 300 sandwiches to lure him into proposing to her. She pondered:

"Maybe I needed to show him I could cook to prove that I am wife material. If he wanted 300 sandwiches, I’d give him 300 sandwiches — and I’d blog about it."

Now there are those who say this is an inside joke between a loving couple, and that we shouldn't judge their entire relationship from this one article or even from the blog. There are those who point to certain entries and identify what they consider to be red flags. There are those who feel she should be allowed to do for her man whatever she wants to do without being labeled "anti-feminist".

Whichever side of the debate you find yourself on (or how hungry you are right now), you kinda have to admit that this is brilliant marketing for what could be a top-selling cookbook, especially as it has already garnered the attention of several noted chefs. I mean, she does write for Page Six, right?

I think I get it now.

(And what kind of material is "wife material"? Is it a sturdy brocade? A softly-spun silk? Taffeta? )
