It didn't take me long to realize my man needs to hear words of affirmation from me regularly! In fact, I think you'll find, a lot of men do! They want to know they are appreciated, respected, and held in high regard in our eyes. So, how do we fill their need for this affirmation? Get creative!
Obviously, telling a man that you love and appreciate him the same ways over time can start to seem less sincere and more habitual. The trick is to be on the look out for new ways to affirm him and give him that little boost he so desires. Here's some ideas for ways to affirm the man in your life.
The Affirmation Message Board
I made a dry erase message board for my fiance that says, "I love you because..." and then I periodically fill in the blank with things like, "You make me laugh" or "You treat others with respect". He looks at this board regularly and I like to keep him guessing as to when I'm going to change it to something else.
Last year for my man's birthday, I wrote him 30 days of love letters giving him a one-sentence daily affirmation or prayer to jumpstart his day. He loved these and often pulls them out to start the 30-day cycle again. Some of them say things like, "I appreciate you because you always see the good in others."
Whenever he does or says something you admire or respect, respond right away during that conversation. During my daily conversations with my fiance, he might reveal a way in which he took care of a conflict at work. In that instance I would respond, "See, that's what I love about you! You keep your cool under pressure and don't blow up when everyone else is having a nervous breakdown!"
The Affirmation Calendar
I'm coming up with months worth of one-word descriptors for my fiance and putting them on a calendar. Everyday when he flips to a new day, he'll see a new word I would use to describe him. Things like "discerning", "resourceful", or "understanding" are great descriptors I plan to use on the affirmation calendar.
What are some creative ways you've developed to affirm the man in your life?
