The Women Who Rule the World of Blackjack

As a woman who loves blackjack, I sometimes felt alone in my pursuit. That is, until I did a little research, and amazingly, it turns out, some of the best blackjack players in the history of the game, are in fact women!

Wondering who the greatest players of the “fairer” sex are? Truth be told, they’re too numerous to number. Still there are five fantastic women, who are of a legendary nature when it comes to the blackjack tables.

Eleanore Dumont – If one thing could be said about Eleanore Dumont it’s that this woman is a true blackjack pioneer. Having come to California from France in 1854, she proceeded to open a blackjack casino, appropriately called Vingt-et-Un (a.k.a. in English, Twenty-one). She later came to be recognized as the first professional blackjack player, and in 2006 was nominated to the Blackjack Hall of Fame.

Monica Reeves – A more recent female blackjack star, this former model was born in Ontario Canada, and began playing blackjack in 2005. Under the tutelage of the online poker pro, Krazy Kanuck, she quickly mastered the game, joining the Ultimate Blackjack Tour, and taking a top place in many a tournament. Today she continues to play, perhaps picking up on tips, as seen on this Canadian site.

Cathy “Cat” Hulbert – If you thought gambling wasn’t educational, then Cat’s experience is here to tell you otherwise. This blackjack master made her way through college, paying the bills, with her card game earnings. Once she graduated, she made her way to Vegas, where she worked as a blackjack dealer, and learned to count cards. She then took to the road with a group of likeminded players, travelling to European casinos and raking in the winnings. Cathy Hulbert eventually returned to her first love, poker, but the game of blackjack continues to hold a warm place in her heart.

Alice Walker – In June 2007, at the fourth season of the World Series of Blackjack, Alice (who had just the year before won the GSN $1M, three-card poker championship) surprised everyone and beat out 40 players, to take first place at the tournament’s blackjack tables. She walked away with a ton of respect, as well as a rather hefty $500,000 prize. With the back-to-back wins behind her, it’s safe to say, Alice is a true queen of the cards.

Angie Hardy – Usually one would say, when you’re hard up, it’s not advisable to play in a casino. This, however, was not the case for Angie. In fact, this single mother turned her life’s luck around by playing her cards right. Through plenty of practice and sheer determination, she wagered her destiny on blackjack, and made her way up the ranks playing in some of the most prestigious events including the Ultimate Blackjack Tour as well as the World Series of Blackjack.

The moral of the story? Ladies who love blackjack, you are not alone! In fact, there are many like me who love a regular blackjack game – making the rounds at online casinos and hitting up the tables at Vegas’ hottest blackjack joints. And with the women above as an example to inspire, I’m sure there will be plenty more female blackjack players joining our ranks soon.

Tip: If you’re looking to improve your blackjack game, and garner results like the ladies we’ve listed, there are plenty of popular events that can be found literally every day of the week at some of the most renowned hotels on the Strip like the Golden Nugget, Bellagio, or the lesser known, but truly brilliant, Treasure Island. For the more adventurous out there, you can set sail aboard the $100K Carnival Ultimate Blackjack Tournament Cruise. Or you can log in to an online casino of your choice, at any hour of the day and engage in a true battle of the sexes, or just a friendly free blackjack game.
