If I was in school and got the assignment to write "what I did on summer vacation" I'd have a lot to say! I can hardly believe the last days of August are here. Where did the summer of 2012 go?
Almost three weeks of June were spent in southern Europe, cruising the Mediterranean and Ionian Seas. That was actually the best vacation I've ever had on my life. If you had asked me last year if I had ever cruised on a ship I would have told you "no, and I don't plan on it". But we got an invitation to a dental seminar on board the Nieuw Amsterdam. I had to work up the courage to go, I was genuinely scared, but found cruising to be a wonderful experience and I can't wait to go again. We started in Venice and ended in Barcelona. That was a trip I will remember forever.
And then came BlogHer at the beginning of August. I was so excited for the BlogHer12 conference. Our keynote speakers were Martha Steward and Katie Couric and President Obama. Martha and Katie were on the stage at BlogHer12. President Obama spoke to us via the internet, without a glitch. I fortified friendships with a few ladies that I interact with just about daily on the BlogHer network. It was cool meeting people that I've known for a while, internet friendships turned into personal friendships. It was fun. Michael and I ended the trip to NYC with a visit to the WTC memorial that we never got to see because we didn't know to pre purchase tickets. We felt the solemness of the area on the cab drive there. A beautiful new building is under construction and the memories of those lives lost on 9/11 will be forever remembered.
We were home 2 weeks from NYC and we left again to go to Las Vegas for a dental convention put on by Sirona. I didn't do much when we were there other than shopping and ordering room service. I like the hotel experience and the Venetian did not disappoint me. They are an all-suite hotel, but they did ask us if we wanted to upgrade. I'm glad we didn't because the suite we had was beautiful, we couldn't figure what they could do better than what we had. The views from our room were spectacular. I met Austin Powers in Las Vegas, and I saw Phantom.
When we came home from Vegas, we were greeted with a beautiful double rainbow.
And now we are home and Autumn is nearby. But we are smack dab in the middle of the summer according to the temperatures in my back yard. I should get out more and enjoy the nice weather. My camera has been sitting in my Ginger bag on the dining room table since we came home from the cruise. I should venture out and get some bloom photos before the cold sets in.
Our next trip is to Nashville in September when my one and only nephew gets married. Then I think we are home for the rest of the year, but our plans change quickly. My life is never a dull moment!
It feels good to be home and good to have a Monday to pull myself together. When we are home I spend a lot of time with the babies, and they wear me out. I usually wait till the weekends to get caught up on laundry and redding up, but this weekend got away from me.
The boys are growing so fast. Gavin is walking and Quinn is talking in sentences. Both events happened so fast, in just the last few weeks. I miss them (and Nikki too) on the days I don't see them, but I am so blessed that I can see them often.
