Every once in a while something unexpected and marvelous happens in one of my 22 classes I teach a week. A couple of days ago, I was teaching my second grade class words that have the letter “x” in them. With every other letter I teach them nouns thatstart with said letter but “x” is different. I can’t teach 7 year olds that barely know a lick of English, words like xylophone, xylitol and Xanadu so I found small words that end in “x” instead…Words like "fox."
I taught this lesson to my first three classes of first graders without issues. But by the time my last class filed in, filled with hungry and hyper second graders, they were just begging to get the party started. This little guy in particular is always at the ready to show off his skills, whether it be with his expertise on shapes and colors, yelling louder than everyone else or in this case…singing and dancing. When I finished teaching the class "box" and rounded the corner to start on "fox" he started jumping up and down and screaming, “Laura Teacher! What the fox say! What the fox say!”
I was surprised that he had even heard of the song and I tried to calm the little guy down but to no avail. So I decided to play the song for the rest of the class that had no clue what he was talking about…And then the magic happened… He knew all the words!…and this is a kid who barely knows how to count to 10 in English! So this Teacher of the Year decided to film it and put it on the internet – Enjoy! Oh, and if you aren’t one of the almost 300 million views the video has received on You Tube I’ve put the original video below as well…
