Though I would never claim to be the best mom, I will certainly never say that I am the worst Mom either. So I will more than gladly wish ME a very Happy Mother’s Day! And why not wish ME happiness on a day I have worked so hard to feel worthy of? I love my children, and they love me. They are the reason why I can now proudly join the ranks of good, hardworking and loving, selfless and sacrificial moms of the world.
Today I am a Mom. I’ve been a Mom for over 34 years now. Being a Mom is, without a doubt, one of the greatest titles in the whole world! My children are my pride; they are the delight of my life. My life now has meaning. And being a Mom is something I wanted to be since I was a little girl playing with dolls. I dreamed of the day I would hold my very own living and breathing doll, a baby.
But just because I’d finally given birth to a little human being, that alone didn’t make me a Mother. It would take me many years still before I’d earn that title. It didn’t even happen when my second or third child came along. Yes, I changed their diaper; yes, I bathed them, and, yes, I even breast-fed them. But my selfish and reckless ways would not allow me to be what I so desperately craved to be. And the battle raged on.
In due time, little by little and day by passing day, my heart began to slowly but surely change. Those three, dear little hearts began chipping away at my old self, and soon carved out a new me. A Mom! I learned to be a real Mother, one that was willing to sacrifice anything and everything to ensure their safety, their health, and their happiness.
And one-day the transformation had been complete. I was not just merely a woman who’d given birth to three little people, but, to my heart’s immense pleasure, I’d become a full-fledged Mother!
“A Virtuous Woman teaches her children the ways of her Father in heaven. She nurtures her children with the love of Christ, disciplines them with care and wisdom, and trains them in the way they should go.” Proverbs 31
A very Happy Mother’s Day to all the BlogHer Moms!
