Thinking Outside the Box: Vlogging with Video Snapshots and Photos

As Karen Walrond of Chookooloonks proved last week with her BlogHer '10: 4 Days in 4 Minutes movie, a vlog or video doesn't have be someone talking to the camera. Live-action shots are not a must -- think outside the box!

Here is a video I made with a limited number of photos. I even re-used pictures, but it seems to work, no? Add some music, transition and titles, and you have something beyond the traditional slideshow:

You can use your own photos, or take stills of your own video footage. I have a Mac, and did all this using iMovie and pictures my friend's husband took. I know not everyone has access to iMovie. I have never used Movie Maker for PCs, but I know you can use stills (video snapshots). If you have the FlipShare software (free with your Flip), you can take snapshots of your videos there, too.

If you have none of that, don't fret! You have options. Take a peek at Smilebox. My friend Denise (The Cottage Chick) used a Smilebox slideshow to add video to her site {view it here}. I couldn't recommend it without trying it for myself -- {check out the results here}. For the price of free, I got a link to my slideshow, and it was easy. Basic access to your creation is free, but to own it as a video there is a minimal fee. It's cheaper than buying a computer or editing program, and a great way to get your feet wet.

Are you creating video with photos and still shots, like Karen and Denise are? What are your tips and secrets? Inquiring minds want to know!
