Most kids like to dream about what they want to "be" when they grow up. Those dreams have evolved over the years as opportunities for women have (thankfully) expanded. My heroes were John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, and Sally Ride, so naturally I wanted to be an astronaut when I was growing up. Bad eyesight put the kibosh on that dream, so I re-set my goal to working in media -- I could at least be closer to my favorite television franchise, Star Trek.
This past weekend I was saddened to note the passing of NASA pioneer Neil Armstrong. But I'm more appreciative than ever for the inspiration he provided throughout my life. What about you? We want to know what you wanted to be when you were growing up. Did you stick to your original vision or did you end up far from your childhood dream? Were you motivated by a teacher or a public figure? Maybe you are still wondering what you're going to be when you grow up! Given the vast creativity and diversity of the BlogHer community, I'm sure we've left a few key choices off this list, so be sure to write them in as a comment or select the "other" tab.
