I don’t follow recipes. I read them, ponder them, then I go off and do my own thing. My cookbooks have clean pages because they are seldom, if ever used. When I read recipes, I get bored halfway through. I will read the title, “Yummy Carrot Muffins” and then go straight ahead and make muffins without the carrots. What can I say. I am who I am.
I also lose interest in following a recipe if it has an ingredient I can’t eat or just really don’t like. For example, I skip over any part of a recipe that calls for sugar, butter or salt. Or if the recipe has a million ingredients I soon move on to my own version. When it comes to food recipes KISS is the order of the day for me.
And isn’t it quite a bore when you need to make a new type of smoothie and the only thing missing from the recipe you come across is bacon and eggs? Meaning there are so many ingredients you get overwhelmed and don’t even want to bother. Who needs that?
My Perfect Smoothie Recipe:
Fistful of spinach (2 kale leaves or a handful of mixed greens work as well)
1 ripe banana and/or 1 cup frozen berries (or pineapple chunks)
Teaspoonful of raw cacao powder (optional)
6 Brazil nuts (almond, hazelnut, walnut or tablespoonful of chia, hemp or flax seeds work as well) for a boost
2 cups of almond milk (or less if I want the mixture thick).
Blend and done! I don’t need 600 ingredients in my smoothie all at once. And some might even argue the above recipe has too many ingredients. I am not knocking anyone’s preference. que es lo que es.
So I guess you can pretty much say when it comes to recipes, I’m a bit willy nilly with a spoonful of who gives a you know what, plus a cup of it’s my party and I’ll do what I want.
