The Second Hand Book Experience
If you are a book lover like me then you already know that sometimes you can find a favorite old read or even a new one that is being recycled at some of the most unlikely places. I like to visit second hand stores. The first place I walk over to is the book section. I love browsing through the donated books looking for little surprises. I have several that I visit each month.
At least once a week, and sometimes more , I take a drive over to Turnstyles Catholic Charities. I have donated lots of items including books to help them make money for their charity. Recently, I have found hardcover books by John Sandford, James Patterson and F. Paul Wilson. Trust me when I tell you, these are great finds and I am always excited. It has been tough for me to find second hand books by F. Paul Wilson, so when I do I jump for joy. I love his Repairman Jack series.
I don't just look through the books for adults, I also peek at the books they have for children. At three books for a id="mce_marker" a person can't hardly turn away from a bargain like that. I have been wanting to read the Rick Riordan series Percy Jackson. I found a little treasure hidden inside the stacks. So now I can finally get a taste of what everyone has been talking about. For me this is very exciting.
It's not just about saving money (although that is the purpose), but it's about visiting with others who pop over to have a peek at the bargains too. Generally, I strike up conversations about favorite authors and books and pretty soon there will be a group of us sharing information. I leave feeling as though I have gained information and contributed to this very special place, not only that I have made a few new friends.
What great second hand finds have you discovered lately?
