Was at a kids' birthday party last weekend. Bounce houses seem to be the most popular birthday destination these days. Well, as you might guess, the kids had a blast! Parents were only too happy to take home the well fed and ready to sleep kids. If wolfing down Pizza counts as being well fed, that is, I thought to myself, watching my kids. And its not like there weren't options either. There was Salad and a fruit dessert too, but its like a pre-programmed setting that the kids have.
Birthday Party Food = Pizza + Cake + Soda and just that.
In fact, a mom sitting at a table next to ours, was complaining about the exact same thing at her table, as far as I could make out of her French. Believe me, I wasn't eavesdropping. Its just that I love hearing French so much that my antennae pick it up from anywhere near vicinity. And so we got chatting. We talked about our concerns, hopes and issues and I realized, we were so similar. She was worried that the kids didn't speak enough French at home (Indian languages for me), concerned that they ask for Mac n Cheese even when visiting grandparents in France (have heard this happens in India) and was finding it difficult to absorb progressively downward changes to their slang vocabulary with every passing year at school. (Of course! me too) Hmm.....Point to Ponder as we drove back home - How different we looked, yet how similar we were. I wonder when people that think other's are "different" will get this.
