April 22, 2014 marks the 18th anniversary of Erma Bombeck’s death, but her words live on in the hearts of everyone she touched with her gentle, yet hilarious musings on motherhood, family life, marriage and all things domestic.
The University of Dayton, Erma’s alma mater, and the Washington Centerville Public Library in Centerville, Ohio co-sponsor the Erma Bombeck Writing Competition every two years. If you haven’t read any of the winning entries from years past, you should definitely check them out. They are HI-larious!
Since they don’t publish the non-winning entries in the Erma Bombeck Writing Competition for obvious reasons, I thought it might be fun to honor the anniversary of Erma’s passing by giving you a worldwide exclusive sneak peek at one of the never-before-published non-winning entries right here on my blog.
I know what you’re thinking, “Wow, that’s a great idea, Jennifer… ahem.”
It happens to be mine from the 2014 Erma Bombeck Writing Competition. Win some, lose some. Wah, wah.
