Post-Christmas Craft Ideas

Tis the day after Christmas
And all through the house,
The family's recovering:
kids, pets and spouse.

You pause for a minute
When out of the blue
You hear those words uttered:
"There's nothing to do!"

Although the official holiday date has passed, it's likely that your celebrations are going to continue somewhere in the next few days. Meanwhile, you try to recover some of the semblance of normalacy with a house filled with family or friends stopping by. Here are a couple thoughts for the crafter.

While you're cleaning up, Kristen at Craft Leftovers reminds us: Save That Wrapping Paper And Ribbon!  She's got a good reason to suggest this, too, and I can't wait!

...come January 1st, 2010, I am releasing my first ebook: Christmas Leftovers! In great Craft Leftovers form, this book shows you a new way to look at your leftovers, with a focus on Christmas gift giving. I love tearing into gift wrap just as much as the next person. I show you how to take that crinkled torn up mess and turn it into something useful anytime of the year.

The book contains 3 solid skill building tutorials and 4 patterns!

Learn to: Make handmade paper, bind your own sketch book, and make papercloth.

Make your own: Zippered clutch, papercloth wallet, crocheted market bag, and knit basket.

There is a great appendix of all my favorite resources for each technique shown. Not only will I show you the way I do things, but I also list the books, online tutorials, and magazines I learned them from.

Kristena at Thimbly Things knocked out a quick last minute present of a simple fabric tic-tac-toe game.  Sew up the "board" from a 9 patch and cut out the "x" and "o" playing pieces from either any scraps left of layered quilt batting.  Or you could make the same game by piecing scrap of felted wool.

If you still need a quick hostess gift to take along this week -and don't want to add calories by bringing even more cookies, fudge or candies, Amy Karol from Angry Chicken shared a link to her morning TV appearance a couple weeks ago where she made Quick and Easy Bleach Pen Holiday Napkins.  You can watch Amy's demonstration, plus get the supply list and directions at AM Northwest.
