I know that Irish people like to bet, especially on horse-races. But here's something different: Irish bookmakers are taking bets on who will be the next Irish woman to appear naked in "Playboy" magazine. This follows the appearnce of Irish model Rosanna Davison (a former Miss World) in the magazine's German edition this month.
A list of 15 contenders has been drawn up, with odds quoted for each model - and although the "market" has not been titled "The Playboy Magazine Handicap Chase", the impression created is of a field of fillies bunched in comeptition for the prize of being featured in Hugh Hefner's magazine.
I wonder if the models listed were consulted about their names being used in this way? It just seems tacky and demeaning to be encouraging people to gamble on a "contest" of this kind.
