The announcement of Google Reader's demise sent blog readers scrambling for new RSS reader alternatives. Feedly, Netvibes, and Bloglovin scooped up a lot of new users, as did Old Reader. Which will disappoint a lot of new users who learned today that Old Reader is closing down user sign-up and bumping off all the new users they gathered since Google's announcement.
Yep, it's time to move again.
In an announcement on their blog, Old Reader cited overwhelming time constraints as the reason for their decision.
The truth is, during last 5 months we have had no work life balance at all. The “life” variable was out of equation: you can limit hours, make up rules on time management, but this isn’t going to work if you’re running a project for hundreds of thousands of people.
The site owners are open to someone purchasing Old Reader, but barring that event happening within the next two weeks, Old Reader will revert back to only being open to people who signed up and used the site prior to Google Reader's announcement, or those who donated financially to the project.
Were you using Old Reader? Chime in if you love your new feed reader so Old Reader users can find a new home.
