A New Month of Fresh Challenges
By Mary Hill
Today marks the beginning of newness and a freshness as Spring takes a foothold in the year. Did you know that in ancient times people celebrated New Year's on April 1? It was a time of renewal under the Julian Calendar. In 1582, Pope Gregorian ordered a new calendar which moved the New Year's Celebration to January 1. Well some people, especially in France, did not get the memo about the date change and continued to celebrate the New Year on April 1. People began to pick on these traditionalists on April 1, playing pranks on them and sending them on fools' errands. From then on prank playing spread throughout the European world and April 1 soon became known as April Fools' Day.
I have joined the April A to Z Blogging Challenge and have blogs up at both Mary-andering Creatively and Mary-andering Thoughts and Issues. I hope you visit these blogs this month. Mary-andering Creatively will explore creative terms and poetry while my other blog will take a fresh look at real political issues impacting Americans.
