My 50/50 Challenge
For most of my life, I've navigated my milestone birthdays pretty well. 10 was good because it meant I was in double digits. 20 was okay, but not as good as 21. 30 & 40 were a little stressful, but only because my kids were young and I was tired.
But now I'm staring 50 in the face.
Fifty?! When did that happen? I swear I feel twenty-five, yet every time I look in the mirror I see my mother looking back at me. Next month, I'll have not just one but two grown up children. My knees ache, my wrists hurt when I type too much, and most days, I feel older than God's grandma.
Still...I'll soon be turning FIFTY?!
To soften the blow, I've decided that when I actually hit the big 5-0, I'm going to make it a special year. Hence my 50/50 list: fifty things that I've always wanted to do but haven't yet tried.
These won't be crazy, out-of-reach goals like backpacking across the Himalayas, but simpler, more easily attainable events. Like #27 - get a manicure (nope...never had one before) and #44 - audition for a play (community theater, that is.) Just little things to remind me that there still are plenty of experiences still waiting for me to enjoy (like #48 - eat sushi in a sushi restaurant and #17 - volunteer on Rouge River rescue day.)
I'm not sure if this will take all of the sting out of turning fifty, but it is giving me something to look forward to. Especially #6 - treat myself to a spa day.
