My 2014 Word of the Year

As I browsed the internet during the last week or so of 2013, I noticed that variations of the same question kept popping up in several different places, prompting a wide variety of thought-provoking responses from a range of individuals.

"What is your word for 2014?"

Wordle: Word of the Year

I've seen this question asked in previous years, but never felt moved to join in... but for whatever reason, this year the idea took hold in my brain and I decided to claim a word for myself for 2014. Throughout the long trip home from Victoria I started exploring several possibilities, and after a couple of days of mulling it over I chose the one that persisted in pushing its way to the forefront of my thoughts.

becoming

I like it. I like it a lot. To me, "becoming" suggests ongoing growth, deliberate metamorphosis, a transformative journey. To me, "becoming" is positivity, excitement, anticipation. To me, "becoming" oozes scope and possibility and bundles my wishes for the next year (and beyond) into a hopeful package.

Becoming... fit and healthy.
Becoming... a better wife, daughter, sister, friend.
Becoming... more creative.
Becoming... intentionally organized.
Becoming... content with what I have.

So it's decided: this word is MY word for 2014.
