More Writing From The Heart

As I get set to write this I'm listening to Eva Cassidy sing 'True Colors' and loving it. What a song, what a voice, and what a woman! But it's the lyrics that get to me. '

I see your true colours shining through.... And that's why I love you. So don't be afraid to let them show.... Your true colours.'    (You can hear the song here).

In a world that is constantly suggesting, if not yelling loudly, what to wear, what to eat, where to be seen, and who to be, it's sometimes hard to be oneself. This pressure to conform often spills over into our writing and blogging. We try to write what we think people want to read. We try hard to amuse, shock, impress – we just try too hard. And then it all starts to feel like a task. No longer is writing a joy, no longer a passion. It becomes a chore. Soon we fall out of love with writing and start to resent this 'work' that we have started.

Words that touch another's heart

Must come from deep within a place in ours.

Only your voice will resonate

Only your words will motivate

Anything else will be borrowed stuff

Of which there is more than enough

Your unique voice is what they need to hear

Use it today – sound it loud and clear

Be you, be true

Write from your heart today!

writingmaeg This is written in response to today’s NaBloPoMo  prompt: Set a timer for 10 minutes and try to write your whole daily post.  Now go back and give yourself 5 more minutes to write about how you felt working under such a tight deadline. moreorless I enjoy writing free but tend not to do it so much on my blog.  I'm convinced that I need more writing from the heart!

Do you enjoy a free write or do you need to have structure or an idea before you start writing?
