Her smile was quiet, yet brilliant
Her eyes lit up the room
She had long, beautiful fingers
Hands with a soft, yet firm grip

The fifth child in a family of ten
One of eight girls
The tallest, blondest in the family
With a soul that never seemed to let go

She created with her hands
Crochet, knit, cross-stitch, and macramé
Christmas decorations to sell at fundraising bazaars
Eggshells decorated with lace and sequins

Healthy, then cancer
Whole, then surgery
Radiation and chemotherapy
Hours at the hospital

Three weeks before she turned thirty-six
Cancer won the war
Miss you, Mom
