Mamalode - An Inspiration

I had the nanny over today, so this morning, I went to my usual morning hang out place for breakfast. I wasn't very hungry to tell you the truth, I just wanted to have a moment to myself, to read and be inspired.

After I ordered my Hong Kong Style milk tea and toasts with a condensed milk spread, I started flipping the pages of a magazine called Where Women Create. I have never picked

up this mag before, this mag is published by Stampington & Company's Somerset Studio, and this issue features "Inspiring Work Spaces of Extraordinary Women". Out of the few stories I have read over breakfast, I was most inspired by the coverage on Elke Govertsen and the success story of her own magazine Mamalode. Within the article, Elke described how her business began and how her creative space came to be, but neither story sparked real interest and inspiration. What really inspired me and motivated me to write this post, was what she said at the end of the article:

"I don't believe in luck -- I believe in creating and seizing opportunities. I believe in gumption and good ideas and follow-through. I believe you can have a family and a business and a creative voice, and that they enrich, rather than oppose, each other. I believe the laundry can wait, that the bathroom can be a mess, and that the mail can pile up -- my family and my business are growing and I don't want to miss a thing".

Elke's perspective on family and business really made me think and reflect on my own view of the two together. I should not think that family life hinders my dream, because it is my experience as a mother that enriches my life. It is also the experience of motherhood, that has moved me to create this blog and bring me one step closer to my dream.
