See all of the differences in the stats between the different platforms? Some are subtle, like the the age range of users on social media, but some are more pronounced, for example gender differences across platforms. These differences are one of just several reasons why you should be varying your posts across your social media channels. Here’s an example:
Tartan Social Media on Facebook is talking to small businesses, non profits and personal users looking for training and tips. We post important social media updates, small business tips, “like” other people’s interesting posts, and make “comments” on posts. On Twitter we’re talking to our core audience but also to other tech companies, social media gurus and news outfits. We ask questions, join conversations and keep up-t0-date on the latest in social media. On Pinterest we’re sharing a little bit of everything and talking to a much broader audience. Some of our boards include Social Media Tools & Tips, Infographs, Animals Are Awesome, and Auto Correct = Smiles.
Another reason to change things up on your social media accounts is simply because your followers will get bored. If you’ve linked your Facebook account to your Twitter account and all that’s showing up in your Twitter feed are the same posts appearing on your Facebook page, then there’s really no need for people to follow you on both places. If you’re engaging in conversations on Twitter, retweeting interesting tweets, following people back, and posting original content, you’ll start to grow a whole new audience. Now you’re building a presence on Facebook and Twitter. Naturally, some of your Twitter followers will find your Facebook page and vice versa.
Be active on multiple platforms and keep the conversation fresh. It’s work but remember, this is part of marketing your brand. Look at the demographics in the infograph above whenever you start feeling tired of your social media efforts. Those are big numbers! If you work to build your following with engaging information and creative marketing, you will see a successful return for your efforts.
