So as a breastfeeding mommy of a 20 month old I've become a bit of booby Nazi. I hate to admit it but when I hear women say, "I just didn't make enough milk" or " the Dr said that formula was just as good" I tend to get a little sad inside. Sad at how uneducated we as women are of our own bodies. Sad about how big pharma and the medical community just want our money at the sake of ours and our children's health. I have seen the differences in my formula fed babies and my breastfed baby.
Let's face it breastfeeding is a touchy subject but one that we as women should support each other in as much as possible. A reality,.... a fact is that there are only 2% of women who physically cannot produce milk naturally. (not including women who've had mastectomies) So whats the problem here? There is definitely a problem. Why are women told they aren't producing enough milk. My suspicion is because who do they go to? The pediatrician, who is a medical doctor who to be honest most of the time does not have all the real facts about breast milk. Though the pediatricians should have all the knowledge about breastfeeding they don't and its not necessarily their fault either. So what can we do about? Educate Educate Educate ourselves. Second guess outside opinions trust your mommy gut.
All in all, what I am trying to say is, "women please research breastfeeding facts yourselves". I've been there I've given up and I regret it. I'd definitely go back if I could. Boobs are great and yes they can be enjoyable for you and your husband but God built our amazing bodies with breasts to feed our babies. If you are a nursing momma. do it in piblic we need to normalize this stuff.
