Launching Giveaways and New Features on Your Blog
After wrapping up a nearly two year long project blogging on environmental and poverty issues, I find myself missing it. So we've decided to launch a few new regular features on our regular blog - Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents - focusing on the intersection of sustainability & poverty in the lives of our community.
I like using regular features to keep the content fresh & help me plan my editorial calendar. I've profiled volunteers, blurbed about upcoming events and used a weekly "twitter wrap" summary of the most popular tweets from the previous week.
At the same time, we've been asked to do some product (and business) reviews - and I've noticed that there are not many LGBTQ voices in the "product review" discussion on the blogosphere so our team has agreed to give it a try.
Product reviews are an interesting phenom. I've historically only reviewed products or businesses that I adore OR loathe. It has always been at my own initiative. I have been approached for giveaways and recently blogged about Pittsburgh based events or activities that could easily incorporate a blog "preview" component to their own benefit.
While these will roll out over the next few months, we started this week with "Eco Wednesday" - a popular hashtag - by focusing on one of our favorite topics: travel mugs.
Americans use about 25 billion styrofoam cups and 58 billion paper coffee cups per year. BILLION. (h/t Earth911) We also order 500 million iced coffee drinks each year. And MOST of these items cannot be recycled.
I'll spend today packing for a weekend conference my partner and I are attending - on the list of things to pack are travel mugs for us both as well as reusable water bottles. It is an LGBTQ conference so I'll be interested to see if anyone else follows suit.
As a nod to both ventures, we are giving away two (2) travel mugs via Rafflecopter. Please swing by the blog and enter!
