If there's one thing creative people agree on it's that the more you do something, the better you get at it. If you want to be a better writer, you have to write; if you want to be a better blogger, you have to post. And one way to break down the barriers between thinking about writing and actually doing it is by posting every day for a month.
National Blog Posting Month originally started in November of 2006 as a one-off event inspired by National Novel Writing Month. If you couldn't join NaNoWriMo and finish a novel in 30 days, at least you could put your link on the NaBloPoMo blogroll and throw something up on your blog every day for a month (weekends included).
The sense of satisfaction at completing a whole month of posting surprised everyone at first. It may have not been the most family-friendly month to choose for such an endeavor, what with Thanksgiving taking up an entire week of some people's time, but nevertheless it resonated with enough people that almost five years later, the NaBloPoMo social network has almost 20,000 members.
I am proud to have come up with this crazy idea, but there came a point where I had to admit that I lacked the resources to grow it into something more than a goofy endurance challenge. That's why I am thrilled to announce that BlogHer is managing NaBloPoMo and throwing their considerable and talented organization into making NaBlo into a deeper resource for women and men who want to challenge themselves to work harder, write better, be more creative, and experiment freely and boldly with the online platforms we know as blogs.
