The Internet Knows What You Like... Right?
Computer algorithms think they know you. They collect up all those Facebook likes and Google search terms and try to map out a picture of things that may pique your interest. Sometimes they get it right. And sometimes they get it very very wrong. When Pigs Fly discovered this when her computer started drawing a lot of assumptions about how much she enjoys Spanx.
I “like” something on Facebook. I make a comment on a website. I buy a book on Amazon. My email address is connected to all of these things. So, I am connected to all of these things. I tap away on my keyboard mostly forgetting that with every click, I am being watched, monitored and pigeon holed. The ether anticipates all of my possible desires and spits them out to me. The Internet thinks it knows me.
