To me! To you! To my bloggy blog! Today marks six months that I have been blogging and I can honestly say that I can't remember not blogging. I feel like I have been doing it for years. I never imagined that I would enjoy blogging as much as I do. I love to browse the internet for inspiration. I love to create things. I love to find inexpensive solutions to design problems. Now I have an outlet to share the things that I love and the projects that I do with my friends, both old and new.
I had this crazy idea to start blogging in September of 2013, four months after we moved into our new house. I was reading off a huge list of things that I want to do around the house to my husband. After I was done, I joked that it sounded like some of the blogs that I follow. In the couple of years that I have been reading blogs, I have watched my favorite bloggers spruce up their homes and share the details with their readers. I thought some people might like to see if all of the ideas that I have for our home will actually work out. I'm curious too! And that is how I decided to be (yet another) interior design/DIY blogger.
The idea of blogging was very intimidating. I wasn't sure how it all worked, didn't have any money to have my page designed, and wasn't sure if anyone would care about anything that I was talking about. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are some folks that share my zest for design and DIYs. Obviously, it is a popular field but I wasn't sure people would dig my personality and the way that I deliver my message. But some people do; I actually have a little following and I couldn't be more grateful. Every time I see the traffic to my site increase, I get so excited and feel like the time and energy that I put into my new baby isn't in vain. The fact that you take time out of your day to read what I have put together is so flattering and I don't take any of it for granted.
From the beginning, I have struggled with how much of my life I wanted to share with my readers. I am a pretty private person. Until recently, I wasn't on Twitter or Instagram and I rarely get on Facebook. I just don't feel the need to share my every thought, mood, or experience with people that aren't in my close circle (but that's a personal thing, it's cool if you do!). As you may have noticed, I don't use my kids' names on my blog. I refer to them as "The Boy" and "Baby Girl". It kind of weirded me out that people I don't personally know would know my kids' names and what they look like.
For the past couple of weeks, I have been telling Nate that I was thinking about sharing a little of the kids' lives on the blog. He's open to whatever because he knows that I am not the type to over-share. There are times when I have done things for the kids and I really wanted to share it with you guys. I threw a cute princess and knight birthday party for the kids and I would have loved to have shared some of it. It would have been so cute to share some pics of The Boy opening his Advent packages. I decided that I would introduce my kids to you on my six-month anniversary. So, without further adieu, here are my babies.
So that my fam! They're awesome. Now, the vibe of my blog is not changing. I am still a DIY/design/cooking blog and I intend to keep it that way. The great thing about me letting down my guard and introducing you to the kiddos is that I can now incorporate some of the children's projects and activities that I have been doing for years. I can use their names and maybe even share some pics of them enjoying the fruits of my labor.
I know this is a long post which is not the norm for me. My heart is so full with gratitude- for my lovely family, my friends that have supported this new adventure of mine, and all of the new friends that I have made in Blogland.
