Short answer- yes.
I’ve been getting a kick out of reading commentary on the Apple store opening up in Spokane. Like all other things Apple, the store remained a mystery (or attempted to) even as the iconic Apple logo was being put up on the building. Much has been written locally about the possible economic impact, and of course the cool-factor it adds to the downtown core.
As a Spokane native I couldn’t help but think- geez have we finally made it? I see all the tourism ads and other self-promotional messages flying by boasting what a great place Spokane is, but I always explain Spokane as a small city…but now that Apple thinks we’ll spend enough money to make building a retail store worth it, I think we’ve made it!
According to the Apple website, they only have around 300 retail stores worldwide. Although we boast Spokane as the second largest city in Washington, we still lagged behind the cities of Lynnwood, Tacoma, and Tuckwilla according to the Apple quotient- that is until this Saturday.
Remember Saturday September 25, 2010 as the day Spokane make history folks. Forget Expo 74′- we’ve now made the Big Time!
To celebrate our city’s new found status, order your next Apple product from the downtown store instead of on Amazon, and head on over to the grand opening this Saturday- first 1,000 people can even snag a free t-shirt (wow, thanks Steve). And the next time someone tells you where you live- stick out your chest proudly and shout so the whole world can hear– in an Apple city!
