December 2015 BlogHer Writing Lab Theme Is Tradition

So what is the first BlogHer Writing Lab theme of the month?

Listen, we get it. NaBloPoMo was your monthly tradition. But once you get over the name change for months other than November, you'll see that the best parts of NaBloPoMo are still here on a monthly basis. It's only gotten better!

You can commit to the month or you can commit to a week or you can commit to Mondays. You can use the theme and daily prompts, or jump into the Facebook group and utilize current event links. You can connect with like-minded writers and form your own small support groups, or lean on the knowledge of the larger community.

We hope that BlogHer Writing Lab becomes your new monthly tradition, or really, your new daily tradition. Because blog post ideas pop up daily, but you need to be around to catch them.

This month, the set daily prompts concern traditions: starting new ones, celebrating old ones, and figuring out why you do what you do, year after year after year. In addition, we'll be throwing out extra prompt ideas over in the Facebook group, both about traditions and life in general.

The December BlogHer Writing Lab theme -- Tradition -- runs from December 1 until December 31. You can blog daily for a month, blog daily for a week, blog on random days throughout the month -- it's really up to you. There is no blogroll you need to join, just post and share away with the hashtag #BlogHerWritingLab.

You can still get fancy and cross-post your blog posts onto the BlogHer site. If you need daily inspiration, bookmark the prompts page for December, which already has all the prompts for the month posted so you can plan ahead. Join the Facebook group to get more daily prompts thrown your way as life unfolds. You can also tweet the hashtag #BlogHerWritingLab and follow the Twitter list.

The BlogHer Writing Lab is what you make of it. At its core, it's about getting you writing. It's about helping you get your words ready once you've taken the time to write. And it's about helping you grow your space and take next steps.

Let's start a new tradition!

Melissa writes Stirrup Queens and Lost and Found. Her novel about blogging is Life from Scratch.
