Day Trip Series: Providence, Rhode Island

In continuation of my day trip series, let me tell you about Providence, Rhode Island.  First, a few words of advice:   If the city you plan to visit is within three to four hours away, it may be best to schedule one really wonderful activity that interests you, instead of trying to squeeze several activities into your schedule.

For example, during my day trip to the city of Providence, I visited an event called “Waterfire Providence” (http://waterfire.org).  This is an evening event consisting of the lighting of bonfires on the river at night.  It is beautiful, dramatic, and entertaining!  The actors in the gondolas are wonderful!

Your best bet is to pick up some take-out dinner and find a nice spot near the river.  By the way, this is a free event; plan on arriving early because the crowds do gather as the evening progresses.  There are plenty of restaurants nearby so you don’t have to blow the budget you worked so hard on---unless you want to.

Hopefully, you will arrive in Providence early enough to walk around a bit; however, keep your sightseeing simple…..you can always go back at another time.  Keep in mind your reason for visiting this lovely city.  Enjoy!
