Last year we ventured down to New Orleans with 8 of our friends and fell in love with the city! If you are not heading to New Orleans this weekend for the Mardi Gras celebration on Tuesday, don’t worry you can celebrate at home. Just remember when trying to recreate Mardi Gras in your home, there are some adjustments that have to be made.
For instance, you will not be able to recreate that beignets from Cafe Du Monde, but you can try: Beignet Recipe
You will also have to forgo the Louisiana swamp tour and alligator handling.
As far as everything else goes, you can get pretty close to recreating. Check out the tips below:
Guests may not bring masks, so have some lying around for guests to wear.
If you cannot have a band set up in the street, just make sure you have music as every good party does!
King Cake! Since you are not in NOLA, you will not be able to provide it but you can improvise. Make a cinnamon roll with icing and decorate it.
Make sure to put a tiny baby in the cake. King Cakes have tiny treasures in them and are supposed to bring you luck.
Have fun cups for your guests to drink out of!
You will not be able to view the parades, but feel free to have men dress up and march through your living room. Leave the horses outside:)
Most importantly-its a party so “Laissez les bons temps roule” aka let the good times roll and DON’T FORGET THE BEADS!
