The Caveman Theory - Gail Style

There's two sides to every story...This is mine

It's that time of year. Contemplation of changes and re-inventing the "Gail" is swirling around in my head.

The journey is never-ending and always about betterment but there comes a time where we need to take stock of ourselves and realize that it's not about re-inventing the wheel but simply tweaking the original invention, after all any project as simplistic or difficult it may be has a start and a finish.

I'm not out to fix what isn't broken: the positive core values I've developed need to stay at the very foundation of who I am, they are the building blocks already in place. If I look at the areas I want to work on they have to do with appearance, health and social interaction.

Everything starts with a blue print and the plan I am developing for 2013 for future reference can be referred to it as The Caveman Theory-Gail Style. It begins with a simplistic idea...two columns on a piece of paper; one is titled positive core values and the other is areas I want to work on.

The next aspect of the plan is finding the parts to put it together. The caveman by the way tried quite a few things before the wheel came to fruition and it was all based on one goal: moving heavy objects (boy! I can relate, I feel like a heavy object just about now). The first of their ideas was to roll these heavy objects on logs. It can be overwhelming to set a goal such as losing weight or quitting smoking, sometimes we might have quite a few failed attempts before coming up with the right elements to succeed, we need to chop down a few logs before we get to where we want to be.

A great way to look at it is in smaller increments. This part of it equates to the original drawing in the dirt of the's the idea not the implementation. By the way my current state of mind is kind of like a caveman who is sluggish, has bad posture and is grunting argghhh!! One of the smaller increments I found is an app called My Diet Coach I downloaded it to my android phone and I must say I'm quite impressed. It offers daily tips on how to make changes such as buying groceries online which I did this week to avoid impulsively buying snacks.

It also provides tips on dealing with food cravings, emotional eating, eating out, food temptations, family meals, exercise & laziness, hunger, craving sweets, motivation fades, diet Sup-ups, vacation and grocery shopping. You can also set up some other goals and track your progress. It even has a panic button lol.

Now if I look at fitting the pieces together part of my plan is making the most of my time. In the new year my Mom will be located closer to where I work. She is finally moving to a wonderful residence and we are all hoping that she feels happy and engaged in her new social surroundings. I intend to plan regular weekly visits after work and I am going to combine that with "gym night" I feel it will help me to get motivated and into a good routine. It will also put me in the right mindset to be with my Mom.

I'm in a social rut and feeling unstimulated which is adding to my sluggish mood. I need a change and I feel it's time for me to look into new things to keep occupied. Three things on the agenda are dance classes, art classes and healthy cooking classes. I will probably start with dance classes and work through that first. I might even be able to kill two birds with one stone by joining a Zumba class at the gym.

Beyond health and socializing I am in dire need of a tune up...again it's not about re-inventing the wheel but tweaking it. January will include a visit to the dentist, chiropractor to re-align my body after wearing a cast for six weeks and visiting an acupuncturist as well. I'm sure by taking care of myself I will be in a better head-space.

New Year's is always a time for us to contemplate change but I've decided to start now and build the momentum into the New Year. 2012 was a hard year for many of us including me, as the old year trickles away and the new year approaches I am contemplating the best path to keep me growing and succeeding and to continue pushing the wheels in motion.

Funny enough none of this is about Prince Charming it's about Gail.

2013 will be the year of Gail along with the Caveman Theory-Gail Style and I'm not going to apologize for making myself a priority. I looked up Caveman Theory and found that it was associated with manning up when you get hurt and doing dumb things...I think it's about taking your time to reach your goals maybe the Caveman wasn't so dumb after all.
