Later, I take a nap 'cause I had so much fun exploring at Arcosanti.

The next day, we go to the first ever, Cordes Station Gold Prospectors Barbeque.

Did you know:

The Cordes Station dates back to 1879, and originally known as Antelope Station, named after a nearby stream.

John Henry Cordes purchased the station for $769.43 in 1882, about a year after the prior owner, Otto Bolin, was murdered in a drunken brawl.

John Henry and his wife, Lizzie, raised six children at Cordes and remains in the family today, three generations later.

"In 1886, Cordes applied for a post office using the name Antelope. Because of the confusion with Antelope Valley, on the west side of the Bradshaw’s, John was forced to reapply changing the name to Cordes, which stands today."

Cordes Station became a popular supply outpost for area miners and sheep drives, including sheep shearing factory.

The Cordes Station is off the I-17, Exit 259. Follow the Crown King Road east approximately 2.5 miles. "Cordes is well worth your visit, not to be confused with Cordes Junction.on I-17."
