Purvi Shah, the incredible artist and friend who envisioned BlogHer's logo as everywoman, needs our help. Her amazing eight-year-old son, Amaey, needs to find a bone marrow donor this weekend. Here's the story ...
Six years ago when BlogHer was just a twinkle in my, Elisa's and Jory's eyes, we knew we needed a logo. A look. A personality. So I called my dear friend Purvi Shah, artist extraordinaire.
"We are developing a global stage for everywoman," we said. "Just like our voices, our logo must be both young and old, not blond, please heaven not pink, curvy, pan-ethnic, pan-cultural and ALL WOMAN!"
Purvi smiled, nodded, delivered. The Her-moticon was born, BlogHer's little woman made of punctuation, our distinctive and wonderful mark. We've given her a make-over but the fundamental vision, Purvi's vision, still stands for this amazing community.
For the first time ever, I wish it were 2005 again. Because that year, Purvi's baby boy Amaey, then just three years old, began to receive treatments for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Up and down, down and up his treatment went, turning his baby life into a marathon of stoicism and not, hospitals and not, fear and not, pain and not. Treatment after treatment....
Five years later, Amaey has now been diagnosed with a second, aggressive form of Leukemia -- Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. He needs a bone marrow transplant, most likely from someone in the South Asian-Indian community, but donors of all nationalities are welcome.
Will you help us help Purvi and Amaey and their family? Please help us find a match for this amazing boy, whose mother is such a positive light of inspiration that in these past five years she has channeled her own fear and pain into co-founding an art auction and outlet for children with cancer, Kids and Art.
Here's how to help:
