2013 Listen to Your Mother: Will You Audition?

Is 2013 the year you'll give yourself a microphone? Or ... how about handing the mic to your mom? If you're a mother, have a mother, or love a mother and can get to one of the 24 Listen to Your Mother participating metro areas, you could read your work about any aspect of motherhood live on stage this Mother's Day, May 12!

Listen to Your Mother is the brainchild of blogger Ann Imig of Ann's Rants, who got the first glimmerings of the idea while watching the BlogHer Voices of the Year community keynote in 2009:

Through blogging I found my voice again.

Watching the BlogHer Community Keynote of 2009 (brainchild of Eden Kennedy and BlogHer’s event staff) -— sitting rapt as bloggers read their posts aloud at BlogHer’s annual conference -— I knew I had found my people, my creative community. The social worker in me was profoundly moved by watching people give voice to their personal stories. Support seemed to resonate throughout the audience, as did a shared devotion to the written word. The actress in me found the live readings thrilling.

Now in its fourth year, the LTYM experience has grown exponentially. If you live in or around Austin, Boulder, Chicago (already filled!), Denver, Eastern Iowa, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Madison, Milwaukee, New York City, Northern Utah, Northwest Arkansas, Northwest Indiana, Oklahoma City, Plumas County, Providence, Raleigh-Durham, Sacramento, San Francisco, Spokane, St. Louis, the Twin Cities, Washington, DC (almost full!) or Wilmington, find out how you can be considered for your local LTYM show, read up on the FAQs, and be inspired by watching past performances –- sad, hysterical, moving, and resonant, performed by courageous women -- on the LTYM YouTube channel.

Motivational bonus: In every participating metro area, a percentage of ticket proceeds goes to a charity of the local directors' choice. Check out the causes here, and make 2013 the year people listen to YOU.

Are you thinking about auditioning, or just going to a Listen to Your Mother show this year? I am! Kansas City, baby!
