Community Content Policy
The SheKnows Community a place to share your stories and make your voice heard. We're the largest platform for women in the world, and we're devoted to making a space that feels safe, useful and welcoming to everyone.
We have one rule we all live by:
Civil disagreement is beautiful, but we won't stand for unacceptable content.
We believe that sharing your opinions respectfully is a hugely important way to connect with each other—and we value a diversity of viewpoints. We want you to do you. But if your content includes anything unacceptable, we will decline to publish it or will take it down, and we may remove your profile as well.
Everything you share on SheKnows Community is content: posts, comments, your profile, audio, video, images, links, you name it. Here is what we define as unacceptable:
Anything used to abuse, harass, stalk or threaten other people.
We will not tolerate this behavior. Don't do it. This includes hateful slurs and public shaming.
Content that's libelous, defamatory, knowingly false or misrepresents another person.
It's on you to check your facts. If you can back them up with reliable sources, even better!
Anything that infringes upon any copyright, trademark, trade secret or patent of any third party.
You need to be able to legally use any content you share to SheKnows Community, including photos. This means that you must own or have a valid license to use the content. Also, if you quote or excerpt someone's content, it's your responsibility to provide proper attribution to the original author. For a clear definition of copyright, fair use, and attribution, look at The Electronic Frontier Foundation's Legal Guide for Bloggers. If you think someone is violating a copyright, please contact us to let us know.
Contains paid content, links or spam.
We will refuse to publish or will remove your content if we find that it includes any of these:
- Editorial content that was commissioned and paid for by a third party (either cash or goods in barter)
- Paid advertising links
- Spam—that is, pointless or deceitful content intended only to make money, basically unsolicited ads.
Violates the privacy, publicity, moral or any other right of any third party.
This includes non-public contact information for people, unless you have their explicit permission. "Doxing" won't be tolerated.
Violates any obligation of confidentiality.
We will remove anything that advocates suicide, cutting, anorexia, bulimia, or other forms of self-harm.
Contains porn or solicits sex.
We love talking about sex, but this isn't a platform for porn or solicitation.
The SheKnows staff determines unacceptable content on a case-by-case basis in its sole discretion. Our definitions aren't limited to the list above, and we may change these standards at any time without notice.
If you violate the guidelines, we may contact you to let you know, or we may just remove your content. If you're a repeat offender, we may block your profile as well.
We want your help! We'd love your help in upholding these community guidelines. If you're concerned about any content you see, we urge you to contact us directly to report a violation, ask a question or give feedback.
(One last thing: SheKnows does not provide professional advice, diagnosis or treatment of any kind: medical, legal, professional or personal. The opinions expressed on SheKnows Community are those of our community members, not necessarily those of SheKnows Media. You probably figured that, but it's always good to say.)
Thank you for helping make SheKnows Community a safe, comfortable and generally awesome place for everyone.
