This weekend is the second weekend for the Villa de Luxe Designer Show House, so please come out and show your support for Preservation Houston. There are 18 top Houston-based interior designers who are being showcased in the home. You will not be disappointed!!
With that being said, I thought I'd share with you another sneak peek. Today I'm featuring designer Darla Bankston May, of Bankston May Associates. Since 1999, Bankston May has focused on designing spaces that exude tasteful elegance, while providing comfort and functionality. They work with a variety of aesthetics from classic, modern, to rustic and traditional.
Darla and her team designed this stately 1927 home's basement. She wanted to transform this drab basement space into a hip and sophisticated lounge. She selected the furnishings to echo a retro vibe, capturing the glamour of a bygone era, while still keeping a modern edge. The space was cold and industrial with concrete walls and a drop ceiling. I wanted a much softer feel, so I chose soft velvet in a deep grey for the walls and a lighter grey sheer to give the appearance of height to the low ceiling. The draping creates a cave effect that invites you to come in and sit a while.
A great snap shot of the draped ceiling and modern "starburst" light fixture.
A closeup shot of the draped walls, piece of artwork and accessories--a great juxtaposition of modern accessories on a rustic etagere.
Great Art Deco sculpture highlighted in one of the corners of the space.
A little shaggy fur on the bench adds another element of texture.
A beautiful modern stacked console is a great representation of this space, a build of layers on layers and details upon details--all exquisite and perfectly done!
I hope you enjoy this gorgeous space as much as I did!
