Let's Get Organized: Mission Closet

It's a new year, and with a new year, many of us try to get organized.

Your master closet is such an important space, not only does it house your favorite clothes, shoes, accessories, etc, but also can be part of your sanctuary.  Often our closets are attached to the master bath, and an organized closet can contribute to the serenity of your life.  There is nothing more frustrating than going through your disorganized closet trying to find that one misplaced piece to create the perfect outfit.

And lets not forget, we women think often of our dream closet, how the display and shoe storage will look, what colors and lighting would be selected, etc.  And our dream closets aren't just about the functionality (storage), but about the aesthetics (how extravagant or glamorous it looks, a wow factor).

When designing your closet, first you need to factor the linear feet of clothing space you use and shoe space you use.  Take inventory on how you store your clothes, i.e. jeans, shirts, sweaters, and shoes.  This will help determine how much storage to plan for.  You also need to factor how many drawers you use for intimates, jewelry, etc.

There are some requirements for your closet other than storage such as a floor length mirror and bench for seating.  A great way to incorporate a floor length mirror is to have some clothes storage covered with doors, and have mirror framed into the doors.

Here they were able to put in angled walls to create a 3-way mirror.

It's always nice to have somewhere to sit, and I like how they incorporated the benches into the peninsulas.  So by utilizing the space well, the homeowner is getting more storage with the seating.

And there are many storage accessories to add to the closet design.  Below are some images of the accessories you can add.

I hope these images inspired you to get your closet in better organization or on how you can better utilize the closet space you have.  If you are planning on reworking you closet and need help, please contact us at Vining Design Associates for information (christy@viningdesign.com).
